What is a Sensory-Informed Space?

A sensory-informed space is an environment that has been intentionally designed to reduce anxiety and regulate emotions. This is often achieved through providing sensory input via fabrics, finishes, and furniture. The right sensory conditions can make a meaningful difference in how individuals feel, behave and heal.

Why is it important to me?

Though sensory-informed spaces are often implemented for people with autism or sensory processing disorder, the attributes of these environments benefit the rest of the population. Self-soothing is human nature – not something limited to persons with disabilities. Understanding sensory-informed design is important because it directly impacts the daily experiences of both residents and staff. By creating environments that minimize overstimulation and offer moments of calm and control, these spaces help foster safety, dignity and positive engagement.

At Norix, we prioritize sensitive care and inclusive design.

This means we’re being mindful of how the products we design shape the environment and quietly support unique needs.
